HOUSTON (AP) - Emergency personnel say more than a dozen students and staff have been transported to hospitals to be checked out after a gas leak near a Houston charter school.

The Houston Fire Department tweeted nine children and five adults were taken to hospitals late Wednesday morning for further evaluation. Firefighters responded to reports of a gas leak in an area near a KIPP charter school, which did not have to be evacuated.

KIPP Texas Public Schools official Dan Caesar says the leak was reported near a church in the area. Caesar says emergency responders quickly capped the leak as the school nurse and paramedics evaluated children and staff who reported feeling sick. Some were transported to hospitals, as a precaution.

Further details weren’t immediately available.
